Camellia japonica Elegans
camellia japonica Elegans

An old variety originated by the London nursery of Chandler & Booth in 1831
One of the earliest Camellias to come to the West from China, grown from seed collected from Camellia japonica 'Anemoniflora' and introduced by the nursery of Chandler & Booth in Vauxhall, London in 1831.
The flowers are large, rose-pink and anemone-form and frequently show white spotting, particularly on the central petaloids, and the leaves can occasionally have yellow blotching. As a young plant the habit tends to be low and spreading, but it is vigorous and eventually will grow into a tall, wide plant. Flowers over a long period from early Spring.
