A famous, historic variety dating from 1897. The medium to large, deep-red, semi double flowers have irregular dashes of white on the petals, which are often twisted to give a frilly appearance. The stamens can be intermingled with smaller petals in the centre of the flower. Slow-growing with a slender habit, but can grow tall over time. Flowers in mid to late season (March to April).
