Betty Foy Sanders has unusual, trumpet-shaped, semi-double flowers with white petals that are very heavily streaked with red lines and blotches. The leaves are dark green with a distinctive twist. The plant habit is upright with an average growth rate, initially quite open in appearance, but becoming more dense and bushy with age. We find that Betty Foy Sanders is one of the earlier flowering Spring Camellias, usually starting to bloom in January and continuing until March.
The plant was first raised by Fred H.Smith in Georgia, USA, as a chance seedling that first bloomed in 1959, and is named after the wife of the Governor of Georgia at that time.
